Kalliopi Resort Papigo
The picturesque village of Papigo is part of the Zagoria villages and includes the Mikro (small) and Megalo (grand) Papigo settlements. It is located 62 km away from Ioannina, at an altitude of 1000m, under the imposing Astraka top’s (2436m) shadow, in the center of the Vikos – Aoos National Forest of North Pindos. Walk through the tiled streets, wander around the marvelous stone mansions, enjoy your coffee and taste the traditional local desserts in the scenic cafes, drink water from the old springs, take photos of the arched bridges. Papigo has been proclaimed as a Protected Settlement of Particular Beauty, thanks to its simple and concise character, which in combination with the exceptionally beautiful landscape surrounding it, composes a scene that fascinates every visitor. Kalliopi Resort, with a fantastic view over the Astraka mountain, is famous for its family character and friendly, warm environment.
In our traditional resort you will find 7 newly renovated (2011) rooms, all equipped with central heating, en suite bathroom and TV. There are suites equipped with hydromassage, coco-mat mattresses, energy fireplaces, plasma TV, movies, DVD player, balcony, etc. There are two bedroom, three bedroom and four bedroom rooms with double beds.
Every morning (from 08.00am and after) you can begin your day with a generous breakfast (included in the room price) next to the fireplace, with local products, pies, coffee, tea, eggs, bread, cheese, homemade jams, our own produced honey, etc.
Epirus is famous for its cuisine. After or before your walk, you can stop at our restaurant and taste our local delicacies, traditional pies, cooked meals, and grilled dishes, all with the best picked local and our own products. The herb pies, the flour pies, the “paprikasi” (spiced pork) and the veal with plums and raisins prepared by Mrs. Kalliopi with a lot of passion and are worth tasting.
You can also drink a glass of our homemade wine and tsipouro, which we produce every autumn and is now very familiar among our customers who keep coming every year to taste the “Mpitos” special drinks.
Here, every season of the year is beautiful. During autumn and winter, enjoy your meal next to the warm environment of the fireplace or have a drink at the bar. And when spring arrives till the end of the summer, sit at our yard, under the shadow of the pergola with the colorful grapes and enjoy the landscape, the good company and the authentic flavors.
